Get to know your Interior Designer

Hello! I wanted to do a ‘get to know me’ post just in case you are new around here. 😜 So here it goes...

My name is Chelsea and I am the owner and principal designer of Chelsea Veurink Design. I have a four year Interior Design degree with a business minor. I initially started working independently when the design firm I was working at had to close. I started part-time while also making wood signs to fulfill my creative talents as well as get my name out there. Fast forward to today, and I've been working full time out of my house for 4.5 years now.

I am a South Dakota wife and mom of 4 littles, ages 11, 9, 5, & 5. I've always loved all things home. I grew up rearranging and repainting my room constantly.

Before venturing out on my own I spent 3 years working in the tile and stone industry gaining a ton of knowledge on tile and stone products and the installation of them. After that I headed over to a furniture and design firm where I spent around 3 years assisting an amazing designer learning the ropes on all things construction and furniture. So many amazing opportunities throughout these years have given me the knowledge and experiences to help you with your next remodel or new build.

My deeper mission when designing a home is to bring out the experience part of your home, keeping it personal to you, all while creating beautiful aesthetics. My hope is to increase the quality of life for women who are wanting a home where they can nurture relationships in a refreshing environment that supports the life experiences they want to focus on.

Around seven years ago, my husband and I designed & built our current home. When I say “built a home”, I mean we hired a contractor to build one for us. 😂 I so enjoyed the process and creative flexibility. I would do it again in a heartbeat. BUT as so many who have done a remodel or built a home know, it wasn’t an easy process. As we were building, the project manager quit and moved to another state. SO there were some items that fell through the cracks, as I wasn’t as experienced with designing a whole home quite yet. It was disheartening to see some of the items that didn’t get accomplished during the build process, that would be very hard and costly to go back and change now. Since I have been in a lot of my clients shoes, I can understand the stress and feeling of being overwhelmed.

Another part of my job is social media. I love using Instagram to share about my renovation and new build projects as well as my love for DIY projects around my own home. I've added many wood accents to my home and repainted rooms to keep my home updated and personal to my family. A couple years ago, I painted our dining room table top and went viral on Instagram. It was something I was not prepared for but was fun for a couple days.   See the blog here to read more about it and see the before and after.

This summer has started off full to say the least. All four of my kiddos are playing baseball so that is where you will find me most nights. But I love it and wouldn't change it. I grew up at with summers at the baseball field. I played softball until I was 15, my brother played constantly, as well as my dad. So there is something nostalgic there for me. ❤️

We have a family vacation coming up in June which I'm very much looking forward to. We have been a camping family since the Summer of 2021 and this summer we decided to rent an RV with family for 9 days and travel the midwest. We are headed north to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, travel down to Kentucky, and then back up to South Dakota through the Ozarks. We are all very excited to say the least. 😊

Now that you’ve gotten to know a little more about me, I hope to learn more about you! Hit reply and let me know what you are most looking forward to this summer! 😎
