2024 Design Trends
Here’s what I expect to see a lot more of in the new year…
Checkered and Striped Patterns — These patterns are back! And I believe they are such classics. They haven’t completely been out, but they are returning with vengeance! You’ll see checkered tile floors and tile showers popping up if you haven’t already. And I’m in love! Stripes will be shown in many prints in upholstered furniture and wallpaper. I think this one will depend on where and how it is styled if I’m on board with it or not. I think I’ll have a little harder time with the stripes than the checkered pattern. I can’t wait to step out of my comfort zone though. See inspiration below by Stefana Silber.
70’s Revival — All things retro, vintage, and antique are making a run, and have been for a little while now. I, myself, have some antique frames hanging on my walls. With flee markets and antique shops so accessible you’re really started to see more and more of this trend. Antique/vintage photo frame gallery walls are all the rage and done right; I love it.
Blending Backsplashes — For so many years a tiled backsplash has been the envied style. We’ve started to see a bit of a change this year and I think that will continue. What so many are doing with their backsplashes, are using the same countertop material and running that up the backsplash. It really does create such a grand statement. And I love a good statement! 😊 This also creates such a seemless look and less maintenance in the long run since there isn’t any grout involved. It will mostly likely raise the cost some but sometimes, it’s worth it. 😉 I’m a HUGE fan!
Flutted Detailing — I’ve started seeing this so much lately and it’ll continue to be all the rage. Flutted detailing on the front of cabinetry or on furniture details adds so much character. This trend can also be DIY’d to add elegance and charm to your space. I’m all for sleek and modern don’t get me wrong, but sometimes that nostalgic character is missing. I’m on board with this one too!
Gray No More — Cool gray is out unfortunately… warm gray or warm neutrals are in. Everything is shifting more towards warm and cozy. This doesn’t mean you can’t use gray at all. If you do, keep it warmer (not a blue-gray) and don’t make it the main color of the room. I myself have been shifting more towards warming tones this past year.
