How to Fix a Boring Room

Are you feeling like your space is a little blah and in need of something else? Is it in need of something more and you just aren’t sure what that is? I know that feeling too, so I have put together some ideas below to help you fix just that!

  1. Add some character! You know when you see that old house and it just feels and looks so charming? Take a real look around. What are you seeing? What are you loving? One thing that always gets me is the trim work and detail that went into homes many many years ago. They just don’t do that in homes anymore nowadays. Any and all trim/millwork is my favorite right now. Add some crown molding or chunky beams to your ceiling. Draw your eye up to something interesting and charming. Another popular trim detail is picture molding and board and batten. You can literally add either of those to any room in your home. Add one or the other in a bedroom, dining room, office, laundry room, etc. The list could goes on and on. There are also so many ideas online these days to help you navigate what would work best in your home. And if you’re thinking it, architectural details (like millwork/trim) are not only for traditional homes! They can be added to more modern homes by using a simpler profile on the molding. So, no excuses. 😉

  2. Get yourself a fireplace girl! You can easily add an electric fireplace to your space so no need for a gas line to be added. If you do decided to go the electric route, make sure you realize how much heat it will put out as opposed to a gas fireplace. And obviously it’s not quite as real looking when you go this route. Fireplaces are great for your primary bedroom, your living space, maybe your dining room or sunroom. So many options and sizes to accommodate your space! Add a fireplace adds warmth and give your space a focal point! Every room should have a focal point, so if you do’t have one get that fireplace ordered NOW! 😂 Believe me I could go on and on about focal points but that’s for another day. If and when you add that fireplace, think about adding a mantle, maybe a different paint color around the fireplace. Maybe it personal and make it unique to you and your home.

  3. Add some pattern somewhere. I know we all love clean lines and fresh colors but sometimes too much of a good thing, doesn’t always work. I also know it’s hard to know how to mix patterns or add a pattern and what colors should be included in that pattern. But just try. Add a patterned rug, pillow, or blanket and once you just start, believe me it get easier. Also maybe start by shopping where is it easy to return an item if need be. 😉

Go try one or two of these. See how you feel after you add something to your space that is maybe out of your comfort zone. And if you still don’t feel comfortable or relaxed in your home and you need the professionals to get involved, you know where to find me! 😆
