How to Update Your Builder Grade Bathroom
You heard right. You can have a custom looking bathroom without it actually being custom.
Let me show you how we look this bathroom below and added a couple custom pieces.
It’s not horrible right?! The homeowners had painted their wood cabinetry, added gold cabinet pulls, and purchased a new vanity light. BUT they knew it had a little more potential. One thing that needed to be switched out ASAP was the mirror. Those clip on mirrors make the space feel tacky and lack any personality. We decided to go with a black circle mirror which brings so much more personality to the space.
We also updated the vanity cabinets. While the painted held up for a while, there was some wear and tear. We opted for black similar to what they had before but this will hold up much better in the long run. If cabinetry isn’t in the budget, definitely trying painting you current cabinets.
Another switch was the countertop. Because of budget, we opted for a laminate. But when todays technology there are so many laminate options that look quite real. That, paired with a new sink and faucet and you are well on your way to a more custom looking bathroom.
The homeowners previous shower was a fiberglass tub shower combo, so keeping that custom aspect in mind, they opted to get a new tub and tile the shower surround. Taking that tile all the way to the ceiling really brings the eye up and makes this bathroom feel so much bigger than it is. We also changed out the cheap laminate wood floor with a marble looking tile to add contrast and some pattern to the space.
It is my preference and opinion but I believe long towel bars are a thing of the past. Get yourself some robe hooks friend!
While the layout stayed the exact same, the materials and finishes we choose really create that feeling of a custom space. Remember this when you look at your bathroom or bedroom you don’t love right now. There are small things you can change to get the vibe and aesthetics you’ve always been drawn to.
