A Mid-Century Modern Kitchen Renovation

I’ve always had a love for mid-century modern design.

When this client reached out to me and said she hopes to transform her dated kitchen into a mid-century modern kitchen, I was thrilled. I’ve always loved the sleek lines and warmth of mid-century modern envelops. Take a look at what I was working with.

The main struggle with this kitchen was the layout and traffic through and within the kitchen. We ended up moving the fridge to the other side of the kitchen to create more space when traveling through to the garage.

Because the stovetop was in their “island”, we created a workspace in and behind the “island” for when they would be using the cooktop. We were able to add a little bit of square footage to this “island” to add some workspace and seating space.

These cabinets are made of an European style particle substrate that’s covered in natural melamine for easy cleaning. It’s definitely a different product than I have used before but absolutely brings the style this homeowner wanted.

Materials commonly used in mid-century modern design include natural woods like teak, walnut, and oak, which add warmth and texture to the space. These materials are often paired with metal accents to create contrast and visual interest. This cabinet choice won’t be for everybody but it fits this homeowners style so perfectly. In mid-century modern design, you'll also find sleek, clean lines and geometric shapes that create a sense of openness and simplicity in the space

This will always be a favorite for me because of the design style of the homeowners and their openness to mid-century modern design style.
