Transitioning Your Home to Fall

Do you decorate for Fall?

Switching out your decor for the fall season is all about embracing warmth, coziness, and rich, earthy tones. Above are some of my favorites right now and some key steps to transition your space. You don’t need a lot to make this switch.

  1. Color Palette

Shift from light, summery hues to deeper, warm tones like burnt orange, deep red, mustard yellow, and rich browns. You can add these through accents like pillows, throws, and rugs. You can also add this through stems and florals. I reuse the same vases year round and just switch out what’s inside.

  2. Texture

Introduce cozy textures such as chunky knit throws, velvet pillows, and woven baskets. Think about layering fabrics—mix wool, faux fur, and suede to create warmth and visual interest. To me, these items can be year round items as well depending on your home’s style. Pillows and throws are easy items to switch out if you do want sometime more specific for the holidays.

  3. Natural Elements

Incorporate seasonal elements like dried flowers, pampas grass, or autumn leaves in vases. Wood tones and raw, organic materials (e.g., wooden bowls, wicker trays) add warmth and complement the fall vibe. This ties into the color palette as well. Because stems are just a easy change and easy to store, they are a perfect item to have for each holiday.

  4. Scent

Incorporate fall scents like cinnamon, clove, and pumpkin spice through candles or diffusers, which create a sensory connection to the season. Remember your home is an experience. Set your environment girl. 😉

  5. Seasonal Centerpieces

Dress up your dining table or console with seasonal centerpieces, like a bowl of seasonal fruits, pinecones, or a vase of fall flowers. Adding a plaid or neutral-toned table runner can enhance the look. Keep this simple, because again you will need to store these items after the season changes. But switching out your centerpiece or countertop decor really sets the environment up for the season.

Remember you don’t need a ton of pieces to change out your decor for Fall. Keep it simple and remember before you purchase anything, you will need to store it somewhere when the season changes.
